Monday, June 18th: Sleeping in

Monday, June 18th: I did not get out of my sleeping bag at 4:30am this morning! I slept. Normally when 4:30 comes I lay in my sleeping bag feeling guilty that I'm not up hiking and crushing 30 miles. This morning, however, there was no guilt. I slept and I enjoyed it! I didn't start hiking until 7:22am this morning. Today's miles = 16. Today was perfect. I hiked 9 1/2 miles (mostly uphill) to the water source for lunch. It was the only water in the area so it was my drinking water. I got a kick out of the sign rigged to a tree that read "water not safe for drinking". What are you going to do, though, when you in the desert and the only water available has traces of uranium in it? Well, you drink it, obviously. Even with the uranium water today was still perfect. The hike was nice, the view was beautiful, and I felt great! The past three days I have felt better than I have the past almost 700 miles. The only thing that was slowing me down today was my leg, which isn't going away anytime soon but that's only pain. I can deal with the pain. It's the overall fatigue and dizziness that gets me down usually.
