I went to the doctor today because the poison oak continued to spread. The blisters got HUGE and the other hikers encouraged me to get a medical opinion. I'm glad I did because the doctor told me that my whole foot is inflamed and infected. She said that one or more of the blisters must have popped while hiking and opened the foot up for infection. She told me because of my situation (hiking through the mountains) she wanted to make sure she took every precaution in case I was unable to get back to a doctor. Therefore, I'm being treated for a staff infection. She did tell me that the infection was already extreamly severe and to watch it very closely.
I'll probably end up hanging out here at the Saufleys tomorrow as well hoping that the blisters will go down enough for me to start hiking again. The doc said that once they start to scab over I should be free to hike....if I'm careful. Although, when she inquired about my swollen leg and got the information that I had a stress fracture she didn't seem to anxious to give me the go ahead to hike anymore.
Only 249 miles until Kennedy Meadows and the Sierras!! Just gotta make it through the Mojave first.
